Social networking is one of the most important tools in communication that has transformed the flow of communication. Media evolved throughout history in line to make effective and efficient process of communication. Social media is one of the newest tools of communication and it transformed the lifestyle of society. Before the existence of social media, communication is restricted by distance. Even to communicate in far distance requires huge price. Social media allows priceless communication without distance boundary.
The benefits of social media are countless. Before the existence of social media, communication was so passive. Media are limited only to newspaper, radio and television. Giving opinion and criticisms to society and governments are limited. Social media opens bigger space for us to do active activities. The first recognizable social media was invented in 1997 which is six degrees. In 2002, Friendster is founded then followed by My Space and Hi 5 in 2003. In 2004, Facebook is invented. Since the invention of Facebook, more people across the globe are using social media. Up until today, Facebook stills widely used together with new social media such as Instagram and Snap Chat.
Modern social media allows us to do many fun activities. We can express our thoughts, feelings and ideas in status. We can also upload photos and videos. Moreover, audience can openly write comments and likes. Before the existence of social media, life was so passive and expressing the opinions is very hard. But today social media allows people to be more creative, such as improving their writing, speaking, communication, photography, etc.
